Kathleen Casey Sworn in as SEC Commissioner

On July 17, 2006, Kathleen Casey was sworn in by Chairman Christopher Cox as the 88th Commissioner of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC or the Commission). Commissioner Casey was appointed as SEC Commissioner by President Bush on May 18, 2006.

"We are enormously fortunate to have Kathleen Casey joining us. As the Staff Director of the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs for the past three and a half years, Kathleen brings to us an invaluable wealth of experience.  She is strongly committed to safeguarding the interests of investors, and to maintaining the health of the securities markets on which capital formation, and our nation's economic health, depend," said Chairman Cox.

Previously, Commissioner Casey worked for 13 years on Capitol Hill. She most recently served as Staff Director and Counsel of the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee. In addition, Commissioner Casey served from 1996-2003 as Legislative Director and Chief of Staff for Senator Richard Shelby; from 1994 to 1996 as Staff Director of the Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Regulatory Relief, Senate Banking Committee; and from 1993 to 1994 as Legislative Assistant under Senator Shelby, handling all tax, budget, and finance policy matters.
